What are the ABC's of a Glowing Complexion? We break it down for you, three key ingredients to look for in your skin care.

It's back-to-school time! Let's talk about the ABC’s of a Glowing Complexion

A – Anti-Oxidants

What exactly is an anti-oxidant?  It’s a compound that works to eliminate and block oxidation. Oxidation is when the breakdown of cells produces free radicals, which can alter the fundamental structure of molecules (leading to hyper-pigmentation, cancer, etc).

A natural source of these crucial anti-oxidants is Swiss Edelweiss, a botanical ingredient that has naturally evolved over centuries to survive harsh UV rays and radiation. Swiss Edelweiss contains leontopodic acid, which is twice as strong as Vitamin C, to strengthen the skin’s barrier, the epidermis, to protect against those free-radicals as well as environmental pollutants.

Anti-oxidants can be found in most of our skin care products but one of my favorites is the Skinfood Extra Riche.

B – Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3, also known as niacinamide can help preserve our skin’s protective enzymes which provide the skin’s barrier with nutrients to defend against pollutants and other irritants. Also, vitamin B3 has shown to be valuable for encouraging the production of natural emollients that can help the skin remain hydrated.

The B complex in Sesame Oil has been studied and proven to not only be effective at penetrating the epidermis, it also reduces inflammation and fights against bacterial infection. Easily absorbed by the skin, Sesame Oil can improve blood circulation, repair damaged cells and acts as a carrier oil for other ingredients like Vitamin C.

Referred to by some as pure magic, the RAO Essential Oil is a blend of powerhouse ingredients including Sesame Oil.

C- Calendula

This gorgeous, botanical flower contains flavonoids and linoleic acid which permeate the skin’s barrier to deliver ingredients to the dermis (second layer of skin) to promote healthy, glowing and youthful looking skin. A 2013 review (Preethi, K. C., & Kuttan, R. (n.d.). Wound healing activity of flower extract of Calendula officinalis. Retrieved from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19601397) found that calendula has antiseptic, antiviral, and antifungal properties and can be used successfully to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea and acne. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, calendula may reduce pain and swelling too – making this the perfect ingredient in our Eye Region Cream, no puffy eyes!
